Bierlein gets to grips with vacant former hotel and conference centre.
The process of leveling the vacant former Saginaw Plaza Hotel and Conference Center began this morning with wrecking ball strikes from a Bierlein Construction Co. crane operator.
The wrecking ball crashed through multiple floors on some strikes, sending rubble from atop the eight-story building tumbling to the ground.
Bierlein manager of demolition Jeff Bierlein said he and his six-man crew could have almost half the 177-room building leveled by the end of the day. He said he hopes to demolish the entire building by week’s end.
