Veteran blaster earns Royal seal of approval as Queen detonates explosives.
The street parties and Buckingham Palace rock concerts may be over, but Her Majesty The Queen is still touring the country UK as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. And the latest leg of her journey – to the North East of England – afforded her a rare brush with the explosives business and with the industry’s own blasting royalty, Dick Green of IndEx.
Green had rigged the gates of the Tees Barrage to open with a bang when the Queen pressed the button, decalaring the Olympic-standard new white water course open and allowing swimmers, canoeists and (of course) water to pour through.
“I have had some tense moments bringing down large structures but the thought of a misfire involving Her Royal Highness and her close proximity made it as tense as any major project,” Green says. “But the “blast” went well and the day was a great success for all involved including the 3,000 spectators, It was a great privilege to be involved with such a wonderful Monarch. A great day and a great lady, long may she reign.”
