First raw footage hits the Internet while dust is still settling.
Opened in September of 1970, Wetzel Hall was used for nearly four decades as a home for over 20,000 Western Illinois University students. But at 7 am (local time this morning, that proud heritage came crashing down in a controlled explosion that was watched live by thousands on the ground and many more via an online live feed.
And just a few minutes later, as the dust cloud settled and the onlookers drifted away, the first raw footage of the implosion made its way onto the Internet. While we’re waiting for some better quality, official footage from the blast, here’s some of those raw amateur clips:
