Man dies from major head injuries after fall at power plant.

A contract employee died after falling to his death while helping dismantle the defunct PG&E power plant on Rosedale Highway.

Hall Ambulance responded to a report of a worker trapped in an excavator at the defunct PG&E power plant on Rosedale Highway about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Officials report the victim — 52-year-old Luis Minjarez — was in an excavator 50 feet in the air cutting apart a structure when a beam collapsed and fell on the machine. He fell to the ground and suffered major head injuries.

The Cleveland Wrecking Company has issued a statement expressing the loss of their 14-year employee. It reads, in part: “Today is a sad day for the Cleveland Wrecking Company family. Luis was 52 years old and had been a 14-year employee of Cleveland Wrecking Company. As we move forward with our investigation, we would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to Luis’s family, friends and coworkers.”
