Fire devastates Kevlar treatment operations.
Fire severely damaged part of the American Demolition complex in Canton yesterday.
Canton Fire Department firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 9 pm local time. Buildings sustaining damage were a brick warehouse and a metal-sided addition on the east side.
“It was pretty much fully involved upon arrival,” Division Chief John Whitlatch said. “It is a total loss.”
The fire extended to the roof, which eventually collapsed, as did sections of the walls. Damage was estimated at $200,000 to the building and $150,000 to contents.
Attempts to contact the business operator, Wilbur “Butch” Olmstead, were not successful Wednesday.
American Demolition used the building to house its operations to treat Kevlar, a synthetic fibre.
