Excavator smashed by falling debris at ConAgra site.
A clean up contractor is cleansing part of Huron’s shore of a mixture of roughly five gallons of oil and hydraulic fluid after a piece of debris smashed in to an excavator at the ConAgra demolition site yesterday afternoon.
Advanced Explosives Demolition Inc. was working on the tipping of the site’s remaining silos when a chunk of the unstable building fell loose, said Tim Jonovich, director of Erie County Emergency Management and Office Of Homeland Security.
“No one was injured,” he said. “The operator was on the otherside of where the debris fell.”
Jonovich said he’d heard the piece that fell was an i-beam, but the debris had been moved by the time he arrived yesterday.
“It did some substansial damage to the machinery,” he said.
