Exclusive look at the new Komatsu Dash-10 excavator range.
Construction equipment giant Komatsu has preempted the rigorous demands of the new EU Stage IIIB/Tier 4 Interim regulations with the launch of the first of its new Dash-10 line of hydraulic excavators.
Comprising the PC240, PC280, PC360 and the PC490 which replaces the previous PC450, the new models are powered by Komatsu diesel engines that use an advanced electronic control system to manage air flow rate, fuel injection, combustion parameters, and after treatment functions to optimise performance, reduce emissions, and provide advanced diagnostic capability.
All of which scientific wizardry is usually balanced by an increase in fuel consumption. Not so, says Komatsu. The company has developed the hydraulically actuated Komatsu Variable Geometry Turbocharger (KVGT) and an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve that, together with some more efficient hydraulics, deliver a longer component life and a reduction in fuel consumption of between five and 10 percent. And the Birtley-based manufacturer can back up these impressive claims with real-time data from its Komtrax machine monitoring system.
We will be producing a more in-depth review of the machines for the next edition of Demolition & Dismantling magazine which is due out in early May. But, in the meantime, please check out the video below which not only features the machines in action but which also contains a detailed presentation on the machines’ numerous new features by Komatsu UK’s Simon Saunders.
