Lack of insurance latest obstacle in Bellaire Bridge saga.
The demolition of the Bellaire Bridge has been a hot topic in Benwood for years. And with pressure mounting to get the project done, Tuesday’s Benwood council meeting was a reminder of why the project has taken as long as it has.
Council members and Delta Demolition are at a virtual standstill. The main issue is whether the contractor can provide insurance for the city if they could not complete the job.
Council members said there is also possibility that there’s not enough value in the steel they will sell for scrap to finish the job.
But Delta says it’s impossible to get the $1 million performance bond that the city is requesting. So they came up with an alternate plan and presented it to the council.
“We have a third-party guaranteeing completion of the project and also we’ve set aside funds into an escrow account in case my client couldn’t complete the project that the city could use to complete the project itself,” said attorney Jeremy J. Domozick, who represents Delta Demolition.
