US Demolition bags Air Force base contract at second time of asking

The March Joint Powers Authority awarded a contract for $633,000 to U.S. Demolition on Wednesday to demolish buildings on the northeast corner of former March Air Force Base property. U.S. Demolition was the lowest bidder. It was the second time U.S. Demolition had submitted a bid for the contract.

In October, the authority voted to reject all bids and request proposals again after it acknowledged that the language in its initial request was ambiguous. U.S. Demolition was the fourth lowest bidder, then.

The contract awarded Wednesday was about $300,000 lower than its first bid. The U.S. Economic Development Administration has awarded $1.1 million in grant funding for the project. The authority has matched the grant with $126,700.
