News crew captures final seconds of paper plant buildings
Crews made room for progress by imploding one of the International Paper buildings in Franklin.
The building once stored the Power House department. A company spokeswoman said the steel frame building was no longer needed.
“As part of our start-up plan, the Mill demolished our #7 Power Boiler Precipitator building,” said Mill communications manager Julie Brennan. “This is a 135-foot tall structure and our demolition contractor was brought down using a series of blasts designed to bring the building down slowly.”
The mill opened in 1887. At one point, the location had more than 2,400 workers. In 2010, International Paper closed down operations in Franklin.
