Boat hits bridge during demolition & almost sinks.
The rising tides caused a tugboat to hit the Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth, N.H. on Tuesday.
The tugboat, Miss Stacy, was towed to safety after taking on water and nearly capsizing in the Piscataqua River.
The tug got into trouble while working on the demolition and construction of the Memorial Bridge.
New Hampshire Congressman Frank Guinta just happened to be nearby in another tugboat when his crew got the Miss Stacy’s mayday call.
“The tugboat was sinking rather quickly. It was a rather harrowing moment for both the tug that was sinking and the tug but that rescued it. The current was so significant; it could have pushed the tugboat that was part of the rescue operation into the tugboat that it was rescuing, or into the Memorial Bridge. It could have caused greater problems,” Rep. Guinta said.
