Hughes & Salvidge goes nuclear…

UK company secures contract to demolish Building A2 for Sellafield Limited.

Hughes and Salvidge is programmed to commence works on site in March to undertake asbestos removal, soft stripping and demolition of Building A2 at Sellafield Ltd’s, Capenhurst Site.

The structure is a single storey traditional construction industrial building covering a footprint area of approximately 10,000 square metres. It has a structural steel frame including a nine bay North light roof construction covered with profile sheeting.

In the early 1950’s, Building A2 was formerly a Munitions factory and was subsequently developed into an apprentice training school, Stores and associated offices. In year 2000 the building was altered to provide 2 separate areas, one providing archival storage facilities and the other forming part of the West Cheshire College.

Greg Lannon, Operations Director of the Hughes and Salvidge Northern Division, who has many years experience working on the Capenhurst site decommissioning various areas of the nuclear plant commented “We are very happy to have procured this project with such a prestigious client, showing that we are succeeding with our business plan and strategy to build our client list in the decommissioning sector.”
