Man in critical condition after being hit by falling metal.
A demolition worker was seriously injured and remains hospitalized in critical condition after an accident this week at the old Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. millsite.
Douglas Dove was transported to St. Patrick Hospital Tuesday evening after a piece of metal he was cutting fell on him.
Dove is employed by Industrial Technologies Corp., a company contracted by the site’s owners, Green Investment Group Inc., to do cleanup and demolition work around the property.
In a prepared statement released Friday by Green Investment, Industrial Technologies president Dave Murray said “an incident occurred Tuesday … that resulted in serious injury to veteran employee and friend Douglas Dove.”
Frenchtown Rural Fire Department paramedics and firefighters came to Dove’s aid Tuesday evening after being dispatched to the site on an earlier, separate fire call, said interim Frenchtown Fire Chief Mitchell Hicks.
Frenchtown Fire personnel weren’t witness to the accident that caused the injury, but responded to the scene from another part of the mill after the medical call to 9-1-1 dispatchers, Hicks said.
“It appears, I was not on the scene, but from my firefighters that were, this person was using a cutting torch cutting some metal and the piece fell over on him,” Hicks said.
