Celebrating the dawn of a New Year with our industry (and personal) wish list.
It’s the start of a New Year and, along with the usual resolutions – lose weight, take exercise, smile occasionally – that generally last until the beginning of February, we have been thinking about all the things we’d like to see (or not see) in the coming 12 months.
So here is our 2012 Wish List:
• That we don’t have to type the following words and phrases: accident, fatality, legal action, liquidation or demolition fail.
• That demolition is recognised as a viable career choice, even by those disinclined to work on muddy sites and who prefer the comfort of an air conditioned office.
• That the voice of the demolition industry carries the same weight in the corridors of power as that of its less safe, less environmentally-friendly construction cousins.
• That the Health and Safety Executive will publish details of its investigations in a more timely fashion to ensure that the industry learns from its mistakes more quickly.
• That someone will ease the administrative burden on the demolition industry, ensuring that smaller but no-less-capable contractors do not drown in red tape.
• (A personal wish) that DemolitionNews gets the chance to return to the US for some more face-to-face meetings with some of that country’s key demolition movers and shakers
• (Another personal wish) that a few more demolition professionals realise they don’t have to wait months for the “latest” news
• And that the industry’s prospects and profitability in 2012 are considerably better than those of 2011.
If you’d care to add your wishes and resolutions for the coming year in the Comments section below, we will do our level best to help keep you on track!
