Excavators team up to drop 300-foot span during overnight possession.

Demolition of the old Rice Avenue Bridge began late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. Highway 101 was closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Rose Avenue and Rice as workers removed the structure.

Complete demolition of the old bridge, which was built in 1956, will take several days to finish, with overnight closures Wednesday and Thursday nights slated to end by 5 a.m. Friday, though work will continue after that.
