Vertical water columns down dust on French site earlier this year.
Our video yesterday of vertical “water cannon” being used to contain dust on a tower block implosion in Portugal has sparked much discussion among the global blasting fraternity.
William Sinclair of World Demolition Contractor of the Year Safedem directed us to this video of a contract in France earlier this year in which the system – developed by Vinci Construction in France – was used in similarly spectacular style and to equally impressive effect. Indeed, Sinclair has intimated that he is planning to use the system himself on a future (but as yet unspecified) contract, having been introduced to the system at a recent European Demolition Association meeting.
“As a company recognised for it’s explosive engineering skills, we recognise the natural concerns of large scale dust release, albeit the release is at a pre-determined time and date, making the clean up and dust nuisance easier to manage,” Sinclair says. “Any advancement in dust suppression measures is a bonus. The water plumes are created by explosives. The water is effectively blasted into the same small droplets achieved by the many dust canons that are on the Market. Whilst you will never have any demolition totally dust-free, any advancement on dust minimisation is a positive step forward.”
