Comment on demolition’s darkest day was year’s most talked about and second most-read

It is ironic that the story of the past 12 months that we found hardest to write and even harder to publish was the one that garnered the most comments and feedback and which was also the second most-read story of the year.

Our comment piece in the immediate aftermath of the tragic incident that robbed the industry of one of its true innovators – Ad Swanink – was little more than a knee-jerk reaction. We were, of course, determined to mark Swanink’s passing; we wanted to report the very latest thoughts and speculations on the cause of the accident that took his life; and we also wanted to call for the industry to not be deterred from its innovative path.

Within hours of us posting the article, it was republished in the US and it has been an almost constant presence in our weekly Top 20 most-read stories ever since.

Thankfully, although we can claim no credit for it, the industry appears to have heeded our call for continued high reach development, a fact evidenced by the 67 metre machine delivered to TDS by Kocurek just a few months ago. As we said at the time, it is what a pioneer like Swanink would have wanted.
