News of well-known company’s demise hangs around.
Sadly, the collapse of demolition companies was very much at the forefront of the DemolitionNews in 2011. But, ironically, it was the collapse of Controlled Group in 2010 that provided our only receivership entry in the Top 10 most-read stories of 2011, almost 18 months after we broke the news.
There are many reasons for this apparently long hangover. Firstly, the company was very well known on this side of the Atlantic. Secondly, it (almost) shared a name (but no connection) with one of the US’ most famous explosive demolition companies. And also the demise of Controlled Group was to spawn one of our best-received audio items: The diary of a job seeker. That series followed the efforts of Colin Hiscock, a former Controlled Group employee, as he set about finding gainful employment in the industry.
The combination of all these factors ensured that our Top 10 retains its somewhat downbeat flavour.
