Demolition starts on power plant project at centre of bidding wrangle.
Deconstruction of East Austin’s defunct Holly Street Power Plant begins today, according to Industrial Information Resources.
Austin Energy hired TRC Environmental Corp in May to conduct an $11.5 million demolition of the natural gas and oil-fired power station.
The demolition job involves the removal of almost the entire plant facility that was shut down between 2004 and 2007.
The project was at the centre of a long-running bidding wrangle that saw TRC effectively win the contract twice, first at a value of $24.9 million and then again at a much-reduced $11.5 million.
