Top 10 of 2011 – #10

Threat of escalating investigation costs push HSE story into DemolitionNews Top 10.

Judging by the Top 10 countdown of the most-read DemolitionNews stories of the past year, there’s no news like bad news. The countdown is made up almost entirely of news of accidents, mishaps and issues that impact negatively on the demolition industry.

At Number 10 in our end-of-year countdown is our story on the threat from the UK’s Health and Safety Executive that it was planning to impose hefty financial penalties on companies falling foul of its regulations as part of an cost recovery scheme.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has opened a three-month consultation on how cost recovery for intervention will operate, having already agreed the underlying principle with Government. The new scheme could apply from as early as April 2012 with costs of £133/hour currently being considered.

Since we ran the story at the end of July, it has attracted just under 1,500 views, forcing it in at the foot of our Top 10.
