Video – Grain elevator rubble to be dredged from river…

Demolition crew seeks debris that fell into Buffalo Rover.

Crews returned to the scene of a partial collapse of a grain elevator along the Buffalo River yesterday.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the helm of the investigation. On Monday, they used special technology to figure out what exactly fell into the water and whether it could cause trouble for mariners.

The collapse of part of this historic grain elevator complex happened during a scheduled demolition on Friday by the Ontario Specialty Contracting Group (OSC Group), but none of the marine tower being taken down was supposed to end up in the water. Phil Coman was there and says he saw what went wrong.

“They appeared to have attached a large cable to several points of the bottom of it and then the backhoes yanked it out from the bottom, and then the whole thing collapsed toward the river,” recounted Coman.
