Exclusive audio discussion on the inexorable rise in demolition accidents.
Under any other circumstances, it would have been tempting to have named this audio podcast The Two Johnnies; but the subject of accidents and fatalities is far too serious for such flippancy.
In recent weeks, we have seen accident report after accident report in a spate of industry accidents and fatalities on both sides of the Atlantic that threaten to undo all the health and safety improvements set in place over the past decade or more.
Are these accidents due to lack of training; over-demanding clients forcing demolition contractors to cut corners; or a sudden spike in demand forcing demolition companies to use inexperienced labour?
In a week in which the UK’s National Federation of Demolition Contractors suspended one of its own over a 2006 fatality, these are just some of the questions we put to John Woodward, president of the Institute of Demolition Engineers and one of the country’s foremost demolition training providers; and to John Cuddy, managing director of one of the UK’s best known demolition companies – Cuddy Group – which was recently shortlisted in the Contractor of the Year category at the World Demolition Awards.
Their thoughts make for fascinating and thought-provoking listening; so please hit the play button below.
