Former UK record-breaker goes to work in New Zealand earthquake zone.
The ultra high reach excavator purchased from Coleman and Company in the UK to aid in the earthquake clean-up in New Zealand has a new home and a new name.
Twinkle Toes, the 208-tonne excavator with a 65-metre reach, got its claw into its biggest building yet this week.
The English import has started work on the nine-storey AMI House in Latimer Square, its second demolition job since arriving from the UK last month.
Twinkle Toes is the biggest high-reach excavator in the southern hemisphere.
Nikau Contractors operations manager Danny Halley said the excavator’s latest job was still well within its capabilities.
”We haven’t even extended it at the moment. Its maximum reach is 65 metres, at the moment we would be at about 25m.
”It’s a pretty average building. Everybody’s getting into the taller buildings now.”
Twinkle Toes would have the nine-storey building down to two storeys by Saturday night, Halley said, before smaller equipment was brought in to finish the job.
