Implosion brings explosive end to Reading building
A six-story building on Jacob Way in Reading has been reduced to a pile of rubble.
The town performed a controlled demolition to bring down what used to be the Addison Wesley Publishing building Saturday morning.
According to officials with the demolition company, it only took seconds and about 200 pounds of explosives to bring down the six-story structure.
“It’s always good to have these things go right and this one went perfectly,” said Todd Guerette of S & R Demolition.
Police stopped traffic along Route 128 immediately before the blast at 9 a.m. The all-clear was sounded a few minutes later.
After the implosion, water canons sprayed the debris to keep the dust to a minimum.
Developers plan to build new 400-unit housing complex in its place.
