Keltbray demonstrates court support…

RMD Kwikform Megashor shoring towers support tower crane on London’s Old Bailey road.

Megashor fSituated at number 50 Old Bailey, opposite the world-famous Old Bailey Court, demolition contractors Keltbray has been tasked with taking down existing buildings to make way for a new mixed use development on the site. In order to complete demolition works Keltbray needed a tower crane on site.

However, directly below where the crane needs to be positioned are two levels of subterranean car parking, resulting in a lack of adequate support for a crane of the scale needed. This is where Keltbray required specialist propping support from RMD Kwikform. Graham Bentham, RMD Kwikform Sales Representative for the RMI Sector explains.

“Keltbray’s Wentworth House Partnership design team came to us with an initial design to prop the footprint of a tower crane through two underground car parks. The design team at RMD Kwikform’s Rainham branch then worked in conjunction with the Wentworth House Partnership designers to create a solution that not only had to cope with supporting the tower crane and approximately 200 tonnes of ballast, but also had to take into consideration a consistent slope at ground level.”

“The final design consisted of four legged heavy-duty Megashor towers situated at each corner of the crane’s footprint, propped through the car park slabs to the surface level. The slope was then catered for using adjustable jacks on the Megashor towers. The final solution is testament to the excellent work of the joint design team.”

Keltbray’s Site Manager, Nick Kelly commented on the solution supplied by RMD Kwikform. “The equipment supplied by RMD Kwikform is performing excellently, we’ve got this equipment onsite for 20 weeks so it’s important to have a solution in place that you can trust to handle the sort of loads we are dealing with here.”
