ECY Group unveils new take on demolition breaking; the Xcentric Ripper.
“There is nothing new under the sun” says the old adage. And certainly, having written about demolition and construction equipment for the past 25 years, it is an adage that carried with it a degree of truth. Today’s demolition equipment might be cleaner, greener and more sophisticated, but scratch the surface and very little has changed in the past quarter century or more: excavators still look pretty much the same, likewise hydraulic breakers, grabs, grapples, shears and pulverisers.
But just when you think you’ve seen it all, something pops in out of left field that forces us to reconsider our “innovation id dead” stance. And here is one just such product.
The Xcentric Ripper – on offer on the UK via sole distributor ECY Group – looks like the progeny of an ill-conceived tryst between a ripper tooth and a hydraulic hammer. But, based on video evidence alone, what it may lack in the looks department it more than makes up in ripping power.
We’re hoping for a chance to see one of these attachments in action for our selves and will, of course, bring you the video evidence. But, in the meantime, check out the video below; fast forward to the two minute mark to see how it tackles reinforced concrete, and let us know what you think.
