Mohave plaza bid spread suggests we’re not out of the woods yet.
Ever since some poor, misguided fool first uttered the words recession about three years ago, we have been charting the impact of the economic downturn on the bid price for contracts on both sides of the Atlantic and, moreover, the way in which some companies appeared to be willing to work for virtually nothing merely to keep men and machines moving.
Despite the ongoing threat of the dreaded double-dip, botht he UK and the US have been officially out of recession for quite some time now. But it appears that the news hasn’t percolated down to some contractors, a fact evidenced by the bid spread on a contract to demolish Kingman’s Arnold Plaza.
even firms including one from Mohave Valley, are in the running to demolish a former Mohave County building.
Fort Mohave Construction of Mohave Valley is among the bidders for the project to demolish Arnolz Plaza in Kingman. The cost estimates from the seven firms range from $317,400 to $544,000.
The 22,400-square-foot Arnold Plaza was built in 1967 and abandoned in 2005 when several county offices including the assessor, recorder and treasurer’s offices, along with several other departments housed in the former administration building, moved into the administration building that opened in October 2005.
The county supervisors voted in March to demolish the building located a block from the Superior Courthouse. Asbestos removal is about a quarter of the cost of the project.
