Contrary to popular myth, demolition professionals are increasingly tech savvy.
I have just returned from a meeting between four suppliers to the demolition industry. As is increasingly typical these days, the meeting took place amid a very public display of technological affluence; a Blackberry here, an iPhone over there, a pair of competing iPads.
Yet, bizarrely, one of the key points raised in this meeting of minds was the demolition sector’s alleged inability to grasp new technology and its refusal to move with the times.
Well I’ve got some news for these people that have labelled demolition professionals as Luddites. Since we launched our new iPhone/iPad app just a few weeks ago, we have watched the stats rise day on day and – as of yesterday – iPhone and iPad traffic now accounts for more than 10% of our readership.
OK, so those individuals that choose to view our news on a mobile device are still greatly outnumbered by those using more “traditional” Internet means. But the fact that the iPad didn’t even exist when DemolitionNews threw its doors open in 2008 and has yet amassed sufficient converts to skew the reader stats on our very vertical (let’s face it – if you’re not into demolition, why would you be reading this?) hardly suggests an industry that is lagging behind in the industry stakes.
So before anyone writes off the demolition as a collective struck down with technophobia, think again.
