Accident statistics continue to pile up as two more are hurt in Ohio.
Two demolition workers suffered injury Thursday afternoon, when part of the building they were helping demolish came crashing down onto them.
“I was watching the guys walk around up there and we heard the building start to crumble, and they just disappeared.” That’s how Larry Maier recalled the frightening moments, like something out of a movie; watching the old warehouse collapse before his eyes.
In an instant, three demolition workers were trapped on the crumbling roof — one dangling more than 30 feet in the air by just one of his legs! “My buddy jumped the fence and got the fire department.”
One worker was actually left hanging in the air for nearly 20 minutes from the harness he wore to protect him. Columbus Fire Chief Mike Fowler said, “The other one was hanging upside down and he was up there the longest.”
ABC6/Fox28 News’ A.J. Ross reports one worker made it down via the cherry picker, while a second worker descended a fire ladder to safety.
