Demolition decision imminent on bridge that has been closed since 2009.
Work to demolish a northwest Indiana bridge that has been closed for safety reasons since 2009 could begin before the end of the year.
Indiana Transportation Commissioner Michael Cline says the Cline Avenue Bridge in East Chicago must be demolished regardless of whether highway officials decide to replace it.
Cline says INDOT expects to put the bridge demolition contract up for bids in November. Work could begin as soon as 30 days afterward and is expected to last through much of 2012.
