British Sugar buildings finally face demolition, 10 years after they ceased production.
Derelict sugar factory buildings in Lincolnshire are to be almost completely demolished for safety reasons, ten years after they ceased production. British Sugar has been given the go-ahead to tear down all former sugar processing buildings and the plant at its Bardney site to ground level.
The company says these buildings have been redundant since 2001, are not maintained and have become “progressively more derelict and unsafe”. It is anticipated that the demolition could take place from November.
Application agent Gavin Duff said: “Due to increasing concern about the deteriorating condition of the redundant buildings and plant from a health and safety perspective, and in order to improve the image of the remaining operational facility, British Sugar is proposing to award a contract for the demolition of the redundant factory buildings and plant.”
