Sighthill in Safedem’s sights…

Despite gale force winds, Safedem remains on schedule for triple tower blast.

Former Explosive Demolition Contractor of the Year Safedem is in advanced stages of charging three multi-storey tower blocks in the Sighthill area of Edinburgh in advance of the triple implosion that is scheduled for 25 September.

Preparations for the blast have apparently been hampered by high winds that have ripped across Scotland in recent weeks. But Safedem managing director William Sinclair remains confident that the blast will take place on time.

The demolition of Glenalmond, Hermiston and Weir Courts will mark the third blowdown operation for Safedem on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council. The company successfully demolished two multis in the Oxgangs area of Edinburgh in 2006, and Broomview House which was also in the North Sighthill area of Edinburgh in 2008.

Interest in the forthcoming blast has been phenomenal, Sinclair reports. A dedicated website established to keep residents informed of progress, methods and exclusion zones, has attracted more than 1,000 hits in just two days; and with the blast still just over a week away, that traffic is bound to increase.

DemolitionNews will, of course, be bringing you details of the blast when it happens. But, in the meantime, you can find out more here.
