Historic Tetley’s brewery handed over to demolition company
The famous Tetley’s Brewery site was handed over to demolition contractors, EDS Group, yesterday, as the company was given the task of tearing down 37 buildings on the Hunslet site.
In all 179 workers lost their jobs when the historic brewery closed on June 17 this year, and now the empty shells of its production buildings are to be pulled down.
Seven buildings will be retained, including the Gatehouse and Tetley’s House, while temporary uses are being sought for the other five buildings set to stay put.
The demolition project is expected to continue until mid 2012, while around 114 Carlsberg staff continue to work in telesales and marketing at Tetley’s House.
