Two year demolition delay about to come to an end.
An iconic Regina hotel’s long-delayed date with the wrecking ball will now be later this month, a developer says.
Demolition of the Plains Hotel is set to begin Sept. 26 — more than two years after a hotel-condominium project was announced for the site.
The plan is to build a 10-storey Hilton hotel and a 26-floor condo complex, making it the highest building in the city. However, there have been delays in the $100 million project, which is called Capital Pointe. Asbestos was discovered in the building and the project ran into financing troubles.
The people behind the project admit it’s been embarrassing and troublesome.
