Video – Distillery chimney falls…

Controlled explosion drops 70 metre tall stack at Diageo plant in Glasgow.

Drinks giant Diageo has demolished a giant chimney at its former grain distillery in Port Dundas, Glasgow, in preparation for possible redevelopment of the site.

The 70-metre tall structure, which was built in 1973, was brought down by a controlled explosion. Diageo said the demolition was part of ongoing clearance of the site.

A spokesman added: “The demolition of the chimney is a central part of preparing the former site for potential future redevelopment and was carried out in line with all the necessary planning and health and safety regulations.”
