UK’s most expensive property facing demolition…?

£70 million mega-mansion faces demolition unless buyer can be found.

It has been reported that the UK’s most expensive property could be knocked down because no one wants to buy it.

According to property portal Rightmove, Surrey’s 24-bedroom Uptown Court has been on the market for £70 million since 2005 – but a buyer still hasn’t been found.

The Windlesham-based mega mansion has five swimming pools (including a rooftop infinity pool offering views over the Surrey countryside and an indoor pool accessed via glass lift), a heated driveway, two-lane underground bowling alley and sweeping staircase said to resemble that of the late Gianni Versace. The total number of rooms comes in at a whopping 103.

Not surprisingly, the 50,000 sq ft property – which, according to Rightmove, is the most expensive residence in the UK – costs a fortune to run.

In fact, rumour has it that the Irish government, which has effectively owned Uptown Court since the collapse of the bank that funded its construction, is shelling out £60,000 a month for the estate’s upkeep.

For that reason, many are arguing that the best thing would be to knock the building down.
