City goes the hole nine yards on backfill programme.
The muddy holes at some of Flint’s residential demolition sites will soon be filled in now that the city has a contract for backfill work.
The city had been without a contract after the council two weeks ago failed to approve one because of lingering questions about whether the company provided jobs for low-income residents, as some council members wished. The delay left large holes at sites where city workers continued to demolish homes while under pressure from a federal grant deadline for the work.
The Flint City Council approved a contract with Burnash Wrecking for delivery of topsoil and fill dirt last night. The council approved the $212,280-contract with Burnash tonight after the company hired two low-income residents under the Section 3 federal program.
