Reports suggest that demolition worker was killed by mobile elevating work platform.
More details are beginning to emerge on the incident at the Sonae Industria plant on Saturday that killed Dennis Kay.
According to reports, Mr Kay was crushed whilst working from a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP). He was employed at the Sonae site by Andrew Connolly Demolition.
The company was responsible for demolishing a section of the works damaged by a fire at the beginning of June this year.
That part of the site was no longer in use due to the damage caused by the fire, and was under the control of the demolition company, which is the principal contractor.
No-one else was injured in the incident, and Merseyside Police is leading a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
