Gaping holes in the ground can be found at several demolition sites across the city after a hold-up left Flint without a contract for backfill work.
The Flint City Council at its last meeting failed to approve a contract for topsoil and fill dirt because of lingering questions about whether the chosen company provided jobs for low-income residents, as some council members wished. Despite the postponed contract, the city continued to do demolition work under pressure from a grant deadline.
A contract for backfill work with Burnash Wrecking is expected to be approved today, but in the meantime, council members and some residents aren’t happy about the deep holes and muddy water found in several residential neighborhoods.
