They do things differently in Africa…

Problem: Blocked drains. Solution: Demolish the city’s police station.

Here in the Western World, a blocked drain has a simple solution. You call a plumber who takes about three weeks to arrive and then presents you with a bill so large that you’re forced to sell a kidney to pay it.

In Nigeria, however, they take a somewhat more direct approach. Faced with blocked drainage channels in the country’s capital, state governor has ordered the demolition of the city police station.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, ordered the demolition of Ladipo Police Station, in Mushin Local Government Area for obstructing drainage channels and ordered its relocation.

Fashola, during an inspection tour of ongoing construction works in Badejo Kalesanwo Street and other road projects in Mushin area, gave the directive, saying: “The presence of the police station is hindering the timely completion of construction works on some of the roads.”
