Bellaire Bridge takes yet another twist as blaster apparently switches teams.
The blasting sector of the global demolition industry is a close-knit community with just a handful of key players. So what are the chances that there are TWO chief blasters called Steve Murray? We reckon those chances are pretty slim, which means the story of the Bellaire Bridge has taken yet another twist.
Regular readers will recall that Advanced Explosive Demolition (AED) originally bought the bridge and was hot favourite to press the button when the appointed time came to drop the structure. However, following a protracted and acrimonious legal battle over ownership of the bridge – a matter that has yet to be resolved – it appeared that Delta Demolition (AED’s one-time partner on the project) would be seeking an alternative way to pop the bridge.
Which appears to be where Steve Murray comes in. Following a tip-off from an industry insider, we checked our records and lo and behold, AED employed a certain Steve Murray as chief blaster. Indeed, when we checked back on the records for AED’s most high profile recent contract – 1515 Flagler Drive – we saw that Mr Murray was a vocal spokesman for AED.
However, according to news reports received yesterday, Delta Demolition – the counter-claimant in the legal battle over the bridge’s ownership – has a chief blaster called (yep, you guessed it) Steve Murray!
Of course, it is possible that there ARE two Steve Murrays in the blasting world but, unfortunately, as we were writing this, the US was fast asleep so we have no way of checking.
