Demolition of Maine manufacturing plant halted amidst asbestos concerns.
Multiple reports surfaced in Wilton, ME this week after the demolition of an old manufacturing building was halted on Wednesday. Tests showed that the building was confirmed with growing levels of airborne asbestos inside.
The construction company on site is said to have shut down all of its demolition operations on the plant following the results of the asbestos test from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The area director for OHSA in Maine, William Coffin confirmed the test results to the company on Wednesday.
The plant is currently taped up as a crime scene, to prevent any possible exposure in the near future. The OHSA was reported to prevent its workers from entering the building on Wednesday, as they feared asbestos exposure was a major risk. They’ve claimed that it’s only safe to be in the building with hazard suits, boots, respirators, gloves and head protection at this time.
