Erith changes into Top Gear…

World Demolition Contractor of the Year featured on flagship TV motoring show.

The publicity machine that is the former NFDC President David Darsey reached new heights last night as his company – Erith Group – was featured on the BBC’s flagship TV motoring programme, Top Gear.

Described as the “world demolition champions” (a description not far removed from the truth having been named world demolition contractor of the year at the Demolition Awards in November last year), the company was part of a challenge that saw them pit their demolition might against that of the show’s presenters, Messrs Clarkson, Hammond and May.

The challenge was simple – Demolish a row of terraced houses against the clock. Of course, this being a TV show, nothing was quite that straightforward. And while the Erith team set about their task with a combination of toolbox talks, excavators and hard hats, the show’s presenters arrived on site with an array of military hardware that they believed would be better suited to the task.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the Erith team rightly won the day, leaving Clarkson, Hammond and May – quite literally – in the dust.

This is not the first time that Erith has been featured on Top Gear. In July last year, a chimney imploded by the company “accidentally” fell onto the show’s Reasonably Priced Car.
