Nebraska orders Columbus firm to pay $15,000 fine for illegally burning demolition debris
A Columbus firm has been ordered to pay a $15,000 fine for illegally burning demolition debris.
The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality says this is the second time Koch Excavating & Trucking has been caught burning solid waste, so a $15,000 civil penalty was also assessed.
But that civil penalty may be waived if Koch has no further violations before Aug. 24.
State officials say they discovered the problem after someone reported illegal dumping of waste in August 2009 on land the company owns.
