New Zealand demolition man confronted by TV cameras over non-payment of staff.
A Christchurch man being investigated for submitting irregular invoices to the Earthquake Commission (EQC) has been accused of cheating his young workers.
Paul Munro was confronted by TV ONE’s Close Up, on behalf of one of his former employees who says Munro owes him thousands of dollars.
Munro used to be a central figure in Action Demolition, he told Close Up that he no longer worked for the company.
Doug Ballantyne, who worked with Munro after the February 22 earthquake, says he is owed $15,000 from the company.
Ballantyne says he was hired after his previous workplace was red-stickered as a result of the quake and that Munro knew he would receive a payout. He was consequently asked to buy tools like ladders, shovels and roof-racks.
Before he knew it, Ballantyne had spent $5000 on tools for his work at Action Demolition – and there was still no sign of his pay.
