Another day, another subterranean demolition excavator
An excavator at the Rondina building demolition site at State and Water streets tipped over shortly after 8 am yesterday, snarling traffic.
The excavator slipped into the basement, according to a Pioneer Companies employee on site. Pioneer is handling the building demolition in advance of the new Hilton Garden Inn construction.
No one was hurt, Auburn Fire Department Assistant Chief Mark Fritz said. The vehicle sat cockeyed on a pile of rubble for several hours until workers used a wrecker and winch to pull it upright at about 1 p.m.
