Tilting building neighbours “living in fear”…

Demolition delays at listing structure threaten Kolkata citizens.

The building that tilts dangerously on SN Roy Road in Behala stands in a limbo and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) engineers feel it won’t be an easy task to carry out the demolition work since it’s a densely populated area.

“They have to be extra cautious in the demolition process. It should start from the top, slowly releasing the load factor,” said Debasish Kar, the KMC DG (building) said on Monday. He said it will take at least two months the bring down the structure if this method is followed.

Neighbours, however, are extremely worried over the fate of the building. NB Dutta, an immediate neighbour, expressed his disgust over the inaction on such a sensitive issue. “If the developers can’t demolish it due to lack of technology, they should hire proper manpower and equipment. We are living amid constant fear,” Dutta said.
