Dust emitted from foundry site cleared for toxicity.
Tests on dust from an old foundry that is said to have covered nearby homes, gardens and vehicles have shown “no identified problems”.
Contractor Libra Demolition Ltd was handed an official warning in April during its dismantling of Lincoln Castings, in North Hykeham.
Residents complained that black dust, the legacy of more than 100 years of heavy engineering, had previously covered parked cars, house windows, paths and gardens. Some children even came home from playing outdoors dirty with grime, it has been claimed.
Janet Williams, principal environmental health officer at North Kesteven District Council, said in a statement: “Dust samples from Lincoln Castings have come back with no identified problems. A site meeting has taken place with owners and contact remains with residents to monitor the ongoing situation.”
Libra brought in extra water bowsers to suppress dust after the abatement notice was served on April 13. Staff were also assigned to oversee dust control.
