Platform catches debris as river bridge is popped.
Half of the old Peppers Ferry Bridge was felled using explosives on Friday.
Virginia DOT officials say the bridge wasn’t allowed to fall into the New River, so a platform was built to catch the metal beams after it fell. The same platform was built on the other side of the river. The second half of the bridge will be demolished the same way.
