Owner of El Paso company linked to FBI corruption case
City officials awarded a contract to a demolition company co-owned by a businessman who, according to court records, is part of the FBI’s public corruption investigation and allegedly gave a bribe to a former county commissioner.
The El Paso City Council voted 7-1 on May 24 to pay Border Demolition & Environmental Inc. an amount not to exceed $350,000 to demolish a building at 906-908 N. Mesa. City Rep. Eddie Holguin cast the lone “no” vote.
Raul Solis, co-owner of Border Demolition & Environmental, is mentioned in court documents relating to the government’s case against Adrian Peña. Peña is accused of delivering a $10,000 bribe in 2004 to former County Commissioner Elizabeth “Betti” Flores for her help in securing a contract for a county garage project.
